This totally depends on your services and contract type. Many clients receive weekly visits from our crews, depending on their service contract.
What is the difference between hardscape and softscape?
Hardscape can include paved areas, driveways, retaining walls, stairs, walkways, patios and any other landscape element that consists of materials such as wood, stone or concrete. Softscaping refers to the living elements such as soil, trees, flowers, grass, and shrubs.
When should I aerate my lawn?
Spring or Fall. Aerating during the summer when temperatures are at their peak can stress the lawn. Fall aerations allow the grass to recover from aeration stress over the winter when grass goes dormant.
What is the difference between annuals and perennials?
Annual plants live for only one growing season. Perennial plants regrow every year.
How soon can work begin on my landscape project?
Once you have accepted our proposal, a signed copy of the proposal is required. A deposit payment is also required for scheduling. Once a deposit is received, scheduling will take place.
What kind of services does TOS provide?
Weekly lawn cutting service, spring and fall clean-up's, landscape maintenance, horticulture services, landscape construction, irrigation maintenance, outdoor lighting maintenance, lawn fertilizer treatments, and commercial snow & ice management.
How much do your maintenance contracts cost?
All pricing depends on the specifics of your property. We will take measurements and send out an estimator to get appropriate measurements once the initial request for work has been completed.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Both licensed and insured. TOS also holds several highly regarded industry certifications.
What are the benefits of having grub control in my fertilizer program?
Grubs feed on the roots of grass during the springtime and late fall time. Grub control applications will rid your lawn of actively feeding grubs, strengthening your lawn and allowing the lawn to prosper. Lawn repair due to grub damage can be expensive and depending on the severity of the damage, your lawn may need to be replaced entirely.
What type of grass do I have?
All Michigan lawns should be comprised of three main types of grass: fescue, Kentucky Blue Grass (KBG), and rye grass. Michigan lawns need to be diverse to keep lawns green all season long. All three types of grass go dormant during separate times throughout the season, the different types of grass will be growing as one goes dormant.
Are TOS fertilizers organic?
No, we use synthetic fertilizers. Our TURFBooster application is organic soil amendment that adds micro and macro nutrients to the soil and provides an extended green-up of lawn areas.
How do I tell if my lawn has insects or disease?
Lawn insects and lawn disease appears to the untrained eye to be dry areas in your lawn. If you suspect disease or insects, contact TOS and a qualified inspector will evaluate your lawn.

We only offer contract services. We do not provide one-time lawn cutting services.

How do I set up my client portal? How do I pay my bill?
Setting up the client portal is simple; One way to set up a portal account will be to contact TOS via email or phone call, one of our client relations personnel will be able to send a link for you to set up an account, once we verify that the account has been set up, TOS will be able to send proposals and invoices from that point on. Clients can also go to our website where a direct link to our portal can be found at the top of our landing page.
How long do I need to stay off the lawn after my fertilizer application has been completed?
Keep people and pets off treated areas until any dust has settled. Please attempt to until 24Hrs. after the product has been applied before entering the area. Do not use lawn clippings from treated turf for mulching around vegetables or fruit trees.
Does TOS provide residential and commercial services?
Yes, we provide residential and commercial services. We do not provide residential snow removal services.

When can I really start seeing the results of fertilizing my yard?
Depending on the current condition of your lawn, results from fertilizer can be typically seen within 7-14 days after products have been applied marked by a greening up of the lawn. Our weed control products will begin to have an immediate effect on the targeted weeds and apparent results will begin within 12-24 hours after the application.
When should we open our irrigation and when should we winterize it?
Opening of the system should take place sometime April - June. Winterization should take place no later than mid-November. Call in early to have multiple availability options. Schedules fill in incredibly fast.
When is the best time to contact TOS to get scheduled for a landscape job?
The earlier the better. Our schedule fills quickly starting in the fall of the current year, for projects to be completed in the following year.
When is the best time to sign up for maintenance services for the season?
Early, early, early. We start signing clients-up for the following season November through March. Please, do not wait.
How does TOS bill for my maintenance services?
We set up your account at the beginning of the season with all the services you choose and get your pricing solidified. Once services and pricing are approved, we provide a schedule of invoices. We take your total cost of services for the entire season and divide that into equal monthly payments for the Green Season (April-November).
What day of the week will my lawn be cut?
Our lawn routes are typically finalized two-three weeks prior to the start of the lawn cutting season. Our weekly lawn cutting season starts mid-April. Contact a TOS representative during this timeframe and we will be able to inform you as to what day of the week your lawn cutting will be throughout the season. Lawn cutting throughout the season is subject to weather delays and observed national holidays.
What methods of payment do you accept?
Through our client portal we accept all common forms of credit/debit cards and can set up ACH/EFT payments. You can also call our office and pay invoices over the phone via credit/debit cards. Additionally, you can pay by sending a paper check through the mail or delivering cash or check to our office.
After installing plant material at my property, do you offer warrantees on plant material if the plant dies?
No, all plant material is acquired from reputable, local nurseries and installed in accordance with industry best practices.

The best time to water lawn areas is early in the morning. Early morning watering (between 2am-6am).
